UMD Formula Electric Racing
The electric team designs an open wheel formula style race car, similar to that made by the traditional internal combustion Formula team but with an electric power-train. Our vehicle competes in the same internationally renowned competitions as the Formula team but in a fully electric class! This provides members with the ability to work on developing a complex interdisciplinary project in order to hone their skills and work with cutting edge technology.
The involved members are students completing their undergraduate or graduate degrees at the University of Michigan - Dearborn. The passion for motor-sports, engineering, and competitive challenges are a few of the reasons that pull us into this activity and push us to explore the limits of what is learned theoretically. We implement this attained knowledge to compete in competitions at highest levels possible, against numerous teams from all over the world.

Formula SAE
Formula SAE® is a student design competition organized by SAE International(formerly Society of Automotive Engineers). The first competition was started back in 1978 and was originally called the Mini Indy. The concept behind Formula SAE is that a fictional manufacturing company has contracted a design team to develop a small Formula-style race car. The prototype race car is to be evaluated for its potential as a production item.
The target marketing group for the race car is the non-professional weekend autocross racer. Each student team designs, builds and tests a prototype based on a series of rules whose purpose is both to ensure onsite event operations and promote clever problem solving. Formula SAE promotes careers and excellence in any field as it encompasses all aspects of the modern industry including research, design, manufacturing, testing, developing, marketing, management and finances. Formula SAE takes students out of the classroom and allows them to apply textbook theories to real work experiences. |
